How to Tackle Anxiety Around Food During Thanksgiving

Hey there Reader!

Thanksgiving is this week and while some view Thanksgiving as a time to self reflect, express gratitude, and enjoy time with people you care about, a lot of people also feels tons of anxiety.

I get it. You're around all these foods you don't usually eat throughout the rest of the year and you want to be able to enjoy yourself but you also don't want to eat until you feel like you're about the explode.

So, this morning your girl is here to serve of some tips to keep in mind this Thursday so you can REALLY enjoy time with favorite peeps AND enjoy your favorite foods.

1. Eat Breakfast

Skipping meals to save your appetite for turkey and all your other favorite sides is probably the number one thing you should avoid doing. This is what leads to binging and overeating to the point of feeling physically uncomfortable.

This type of overeating has nothing to do with willpower and everything to do with your body being in survival mode because its been hungry all day and doesn't know when it's going to get its next meal.

By honoring your hunger cues and eating how you normally do on Thanksgiving you'll have more control over how much you eat and you'll avoid those guilty feelings that come with overeating.

2. Remember That This Food is Always Available

Most folks use Thanksgiving as an opportunity to eat as much of their favorite foods as possible because "if I don't eat it now, I won't have the opportunity to eat it again until next Thanksgiving."

This kind of thinking leads to unnecessary overeating. Who says you cant have your favorite sweet potato recipe or cornbread stuffing any other day of the year?!

Just remember, you can eat these foods in the middle of August if you really wanted to. Theres no need to stuff yourself with these foods just because it's Thanksgiving.

3. It Is Not๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ That๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Serious! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Alright, so let's say you indulged a bit more than you wanted to on Thanksgiving.

Take a deep breath. Move on. Put things in perspective. You may have eaten more than expected BUT you enjoyed time with people you care about and created new memories with your family and friends. Thats really what Thanksgiving is all about!

Looking back years from now, you wont remember how much you ate but you'll remember how drunk your brother got!

It is not that serious! Tomorrow is a new day.

And that concludes the Monday "Consejos" (aka "words of wisdom").

Don't forget to check out my new recipe post here. If you're into soups for appetizers, this would be a great addition to your menu on Thursday.
